When a new hire finishes their self-onboarding wizard, they can get limited access to the Rise platform right away — before their start date. They can review their profile, get familiar with the company, and work through any assigned tasks, all before day one.
Early access is opt-in. Administrators can enable it for the Onboarding role, and new hires only get platform access once that permission is turned on. Without it, new hires complete the self-onboarding but can't log in to Rise until an admin completes their onboarding.
Note: Early onboarding access is part of a new set of Onboarding features. If your organization is still on the legacy onboarding flow, this feature may not be available yet.
Enable early access
To give new hires platform access after they complete the wizard, turn on the early access permission for the onboarding role.
- Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
- Open the Onboarding user role.
- Under Access to Rise, find Access Rise after completing self-onboarding.
- Select the checkbox.

What new hires can access
With early onboarding access enabled, new hires can always access:
- Their own employee profile — contact info, emergency contacts, and compliance record — no admin approval required
- The organization profile, including core values and the leadership team
- Any tasks assigned to them
Some permissions within the onboarding role are configurable. Admins can choose whether new hires can view Teams and Organization documents, or keep those sections restricted. Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions > Onboarding user to adjust these.
Note: When Teams access is enabled, new hires can only see the teams they belong to — not all teams in the organization.
New hires are not visible to other employees in the People Directory until an admin completes their onboarding.

What new hires see without early access
When early access is not enabled, the final page of the self-onboarding wizard shows a completion message with no link to the platform. If a new hire tries to log in to Rise directly, they'll be redirected back to the wizard.
New hires without early access also won't receive task notification emails until an admin completes their onboarding.
