Terminal punch tablet recommendations

Terminal punch tablet recommendations

Our terminal punch feature in Scheduling and Time Tracking (STT) is designed to work with a variety of tablets. Although we don’t provide tablets, we’ve put together some recommendations to keep in mind when purchasing a tablet to use as a terminal.

Operating system

Terminal punch is supported on both Android and iOS.

Resolution

We recommend a minimum screen resolution of 768x1024px.

Wireless connectivity

Any tablet with built-in WiFi will work with terminal punch, but we recommend a device that supports the 802.11ac networking standard.

A tablet with cellular internet connection (i.e. it can connect to networks operated by wireless carriers such as Shaw, Bell, Telus, etc.) is not recommended as the cellular feature is not compatible with the IP address fencing that's required for terminal punches. Check out our article on How to set up terminal access for details.

Dimensions

Terminal punch looks best on any screen between 7” and 11”.

Model year

For performance and security reasons, we don’t recommend using a device that's more than 5 years old as a terminal.

Browser

Terminal punch is supported in the tablet versions of Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. We recommend using one of these three browsers.

Storage capacity

Your terminal device should have at minimum 32GB of storage capacity.

RAM

We recommend a device with at least 8GB of RAM.

Price range

Tablet devices that comply with the specifications we’ve listed here are available from major retailers for under $200 CAD.
