How to set up terminal access

Please note that only users with Scheduling & Time Tracking permissions are allowed to set up terminal access for their organization. Owners and admins have Scheduling & Time Tracking permissions by default. For more on permissions, check out our article on How to customize Rise Scheduling & Time Tracking permissions.

1. Navigate to Scheduling, then under Settings, click Time Tracking Settings.

2. Scroll down to Punch access settings, then click the pencil icon next to Terminal Access Settings.

3. Before terminal access can be set up, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve added the IP addresses for the terminals to Rise. If you haven’t set up IP addresses yet, follow the instructions in our article on How to add IP addresses to Scheduling & Time Tracking.

If you’re not sure how your organization’s IP addresses are handled, we recommend reaching out to your IT department to determine which IP address to use for your terminals. We recommend using a static IP address rather than a dynamic IP. If the terminal location has a firewall that’s managed onsite, the firewall settings must be adjusted to allow the terminal IP address to access external traffic via WAN.

4. Check the boxes next to Allow employees to punch in from a punch terminal and Use IP addresses to ensure employees punch at their workplace.

5. A link to a terminal will be generated for each payroll org attached to your organization. Open the links on your terminal devices. For more on how to set up terminals, check out our article on Best practices for setting up terminals.

6. Employees can punch in and out of terminals using their Clock User ID and Clock Security Code. Feel free to link your employees to our article on How to punch in and out of terminals if they have any questions.

For instructions on how to set an employee up with clock credentials, check out our article on How to assign a Clock ID in Rise Scheduling & Time Tracking.
