Connect Grok to Rise

Connect Grok to Rise

Connect Grok to Rise so you can ask questions about your Rise reporting data. For what you can ask once it's set up, see Use an AI assistant with Rise.

Info
Note: Grok signs in to Rise differently from Claude and ChatGPT, so Rise has to turn on Grok sign-in for your company before you start. You also need a Rise account with reporting access.

Before you start: ask Rise to turn on Grok sign-in

Contact Support and ask us to turn on AI assistant sign-in for your company. You only need to do this once per company. Until it's on, Grok stops with an error such as "Invalid redirect URI" before the Rise sign-in page opens.

Then follow the steps for the version of Grok you use.

Grok (grok.com and the Grok app)

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
  2. Click New Connector, then select Custom.
  3. Enter the server URL https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.
  4. Sign in with your Rise account in the window that opens.
  5. Approve the access request. reports:read covers most questions; also approve reports:write if you want Grok to build and save reports.

Open a chat and ask a question, such as "How many employees do we have in each department?"

Grok Business or Enterprise

A team admin adds Rise first. In the xAI console at console.x.ai, select your team, then go to Grok Business > Connectors. Click Add Connector, choose Other, and enter the server URL https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.

After that, each person goes to grok.com/connectors, connects Rise, and signs in with their own Rise account.

Grok Bot

Grok Bot runs on Cursor's cloud, so it has its own connector setup.

  1. In Grok Bot, add a custom MCP server using the server URL https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.
  2. Complete the Rise sign-in in your browser and approve access.
  3. In a chat, type @ and pick Rise to use it on a task.
Notes
Note: On a Cursor team plan, your Cursor admin controls which servers are allowed. If Rise shows as "Disabled by team admin," ask them to allow https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.

Grok Build (command line)

  1. Run grok mcp add --transport http rise https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.
  2. Open Grok Build, type /mcps, select Rise, and press i to sign in. A browser window opens for the Rise sign-in.

xAI API (for developers)

The xAI API doesn't sign in to Rise for you. Your app gets a Rise access token itself and passes it in the authorization field of the mcp tool, with server_url set to https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp.

Rise access tokens expire after one hour, and each refresh token works only once. Your app has to refresh the token before it expires and save the new refresh token every time. An app that reuses an old token loses the connection after an hour. Token details are in the Rise developer docs.

Troubleshooting

  • Grok shows "Invalid redirect URI" or "redirect_uri is not allowed" before you can sign in. Grok sign-in isn't turned on for your company yet. Contact Support.
  • The connection works, then stops after about an hour. On grok.com or in Grok Bot, remove the Rise connector, add it again, and sign in. With the xAI API, make sure your app refreshes the token and saves the new refresh token each time.
  • After signing in on your phone, the browser doesn't return to Grok Bot. Switch back to the app yourself. The sign-in has usually gone through.
  • Grok can't find any reports. Your Rise account may need reporting access turned on. Contact Support.
  • Grok can't save a report. Reconnect and approve the reports:write permission during sign-in.

Remove the connection

On grok.com, go to grok.com/connectors and remove Rise. In Grok Bot, remove Rise from your connectors. In Grok Build, delete the rise entry from ~/.grok/config.toml. You can also revoke access from your Rise account.
