How to find the IP address for your home office

Find the IP address for your home office

If you’re working from home, your company might ask for your IP address to ensure secure and accurate time tracking. This guide will walk you through the steps to share your home IP address with your employer and ensure smooth access to Rise.

1. Identify your home IP address

The first step is to determine your home’s public IP address. This is a simple task:

  1. Connect to your home Wi-Fi network using the device you plan to use for work.
  2. Open a web browser and search for “What’s my IP address?”. Google will display your IPv4 public IP address at the top of the search results, eliminating the need to click through to any websites.

2. Share the IP address with your employer

Once you have your IP address, you’ll need to share it with your HR administrator or IT team. They will require your public IPv4 address to add it to the list of authorized IPs for tracking time in Rise.

3. Verify access

After your IP address has been added to the system, you should perform a test to confirm that you can successfully punch in and out in Rise:

  • Attempt to punch in using Rise web or mobile app (based on your company policy).
  • If you encounter any issues, try refreshing your web page or restarting the application on your mobile device.

Troubleshooting common issues

If you’re unable to punch in using Rise after your IP address has been added, here are a few troubleshooting tips:

  • Device Check: Ensure you are using the same device that you intend to use for work and that it was connected to your home Wi-Fi when you obtained your IP address.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: Double-check that you’re connected to your home Wi-Fi network and not inadvertently connected to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot or a neighbour’s Wi-Fi.
  • Public vs. Private IP Address: Verify that the IP address you shared is the public IP address. Sharing a private IP address from your home network won’t work for setting up an IP fence.

By following these steps, you can help secure your remote working environment and ensure compliance with your employer’s time tracking requirements.
